Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our elementary school serves a diverse group of students that are hungry for knowledge and new experiences. When you walk the hallways of our school, you will see smiling faces, a tapestry of culture, hard work and lots of hugs! We are a Title I school, and while many of our students come from lower-income families, I do not want that to be all that people see or remember about our students. Our students are bright and inquisitive, handling adversity with astounding grace. I want everyone to recognize how our students rise to any and every occasion with ​grit and determination that will soon trail blaze new paths to the future.

Our world faces many issues that do not yet have solutions, but you and I have the opportunity to enable the creativity of this young generation to help find them!

Since you are on this page, I am confident that you too believe that the next generation can be game-changers. The tagline at our school is "every student counts, every moment matters", and I hope you will join me investing into these young minds so they realize that to be true.

My Project

Every year, Monaview Elementary School students participate in the Hour of Code, which focuses on Computer Science and coding. Throughout the week, I get to watch as students open the door to 21st century skills that are the building blocks to potential careers in Computer Science. This year, despite the challenges of the ongoing pandemic, I plan to bring the Hour of Code experience to our students again in a BIG way.

My classroom is all about Innovation, so with your help, I can bring an innovative coding experience to students in EVERY grade level using Ozobots!

Ozobots are programmable robots that not only use block coding, but COLOR SEQUENCE coding -- making these small, charming robots incredibly accessible for even our youngest students.

With Ozobots, not only can we touch on Computer Science during the Hour of Code, but we can truly pull in all disciplines such as math, reading and social studies throughout the entire year! Help me give my students a new tool that will keep them learning throughout their elementary school years!
