Coding Comes Alive with STEM Piperbots!

Help me give my students Piper Bots. These STEM kits mix hands on computer engineering with the power of coding as students build their own computer bot, and then program it themselves!

My Students

The students in our school are special because they each come to school with a sense of community, family, and wonder despite the difficult situations or hardships they each have in their personal lives. I am amazed every single day, seeing the effort and dedication my students put forth. Homelessness, divorce, parent(s) in jail, gangs, abuse, lack of meals, or local shootings are sadly all too common with the population of children our school serves. Regardless of their personal home lives, they each deserve the same exposure and resources of children everywhere, including the more affluent areas of our city.

All students are special, but not all students are afforded the same resources or funding to help ensure they will have equal opportunities to meet the challenges of today and the future.

Our students are very interested in making a better life for themselves and their families at the age of eight. They have needed to grow up faster than their years to navigate a world that children are usually happily ignorant of. This knowledge has given them each an urgency to learn. They know that technology, science, and math will be keys to unlocking their futures!

My Project

Learning to code has been proven to help children become better critical thinkers and problem solvers. I have been encouraging my students to learn how to code from an early age. We are a classroom of third graders (and we work as a team to teach other students in our neighboring third grade classes.) Learning to code is always a fun experience for kids, especially when they see their program come to life in the video they are trying to manipulate, to a robot they have programed to complete certain tasks.

Piperbots will give our class a new and exciting step in our STEM coding program since students will need to build their Piper bot themselves before they code it!

I recommend any parent or teacher checks these out! They are a great hands on STEM kit that can be used for years, and will keep anyone engaged for hours and hours. (You can find them on Amazon now.)
