My Students

We are a public charter school in an inner-city neighborhood with very limited funding. One hundred percent of our students qualify for free or reduced-price lunch, and many have faced more hardships at age six than some people will face in a lifetime. Yet, despite all of the challenges my students face, they come to school each day with big smiles on their faces. They are motivated and excited to learn.

From the minute they walk in the door of my classroom we are on the move.

Making school fun while learning is all I really want for my students. By making school a place they want to go I am hoping to inspire our learners to continue to love school and move forward with a positive attitude.

My Project

I began staying in during my lunch to take a small group of kids to teach them the basics of coding. I brought my own Bee-Bot in and the scholars loved it. They even take their recess time to stay in and learn more. However, the Bee-Bot has been very popular and more and more kids want to stay in to learn the basics of coding. Seeing how our future is technology based I think it is important to prepare even young kids for what the future will look like. If given the Bee-Bots and Coding Robots I will be able to reach more scholars and teach them that coding can be fun, can be creative, and can prepare them for the future.
