Help me give my students Osmo learning games and a coding robot to introduce concepts of coding, creativity, problem solving skills, collaboration, and technology.
My students attend school in the heart of Missouri. 100% of our students participate in the free and reduced meal program. Our students come from diverse ethnic backgrounds and encounter various daily challenges that include: unemployment, incarceration, homelessness, hunger, and poverty.
My prekindergarten students are inquisitive and eager to learn!
They enjoy singing and participating in activities that involve building and actively discovering with their classmates. I want all of my students to feel safe while having a fun, active, and multi-sensory experience in school!
My Project
My students need opportunities where they can digitally create, build, and design with tactile pieces. My students will utilize the requested Little Osmo Genius Sets to build uppercase and lowercase letters with the stick and ring pieces. Letter sound, letter identification, and phonemic awareness is targeted. Over 500 vocabulary words are embedded in this game. Students will use the people and animal tactile pieces to build and dress these characters. These characters will complete adventures. Storytelling, pre-reading skills, and fine motor development are targeted skills my students will practice and strengthen.
The Osmo Coding Awbie Game and Botley the Coding Robot Activity Set will be used to introduce my students to the world of coding.
Recent research puts coding at the forefront of future careers. Coding has a language all of its own. With the Osmo Coding Awbie and Botley the Coding Robot, my students will begin to understand technology language and why and how technology around them operates. Math logic, problem solving, basic programming concepts, and computational thinking are important skills that are honed with coding tasks.
At times student pairs will collaboratively and creatively work together solving the coding tasks and Osmo Little Genius tasks using the headphone splitter, headphones, and an iPad. It is important to develop opportunities where students can work together.
