Help me give my students the opportunity to go beyond hour of code by donating to our cause of 5 Spheros and accessories, so that my students can code real-life robots versus a virtual object on a screen.
Today's roughly 50 diverse fifth grade learners who come from rural Lancaster County are passionate about learning. They are creators, coders, remixers, explorers, builders, and producers of knowledge. Like every child, it is my belief that these learners be provided the best educational opportunities possible reflective of how today's students learn best.
As a result, when you enter our classroom, you'll see learners who are: empowered in creating and monitoring their own goals, reflecting and assessing themselves through the use of digital portfolios, involved in Genius Hour projects in which students learn and deepen their understanding around their passions, talents, and interests which in turn they share with others, as well as engaged in STEM-based collaborative projects through an engineering by design process (in fact, they designed the classroom this year on day 1).
With that said, as their teacher, as an educator, I want to do everything possible to continue to provide powerful learning opportunities that will help my students not only grow as learners, but more importantly, develop a love for learning as a lifelong journey! Your support towards our classroom are truly appreciated, and will benefit students for subsequent years to come!
My Project
Coding has been around for a long time (the first graphic programming LOGO with the 'turtle' being created in 1969), but only recently has coding reached a new level - being able to code physical objects, namely robots, including Spheros. Think: Starwars BB-8.
Coding Spheros will empower my current as well as prospective students to develop and employ both critical and computational thinking strategies to solve problems while leveraging technology as a means to explore and find solutions.
Spheros will allow my students to embark in STEM-based challenges, including scientific inquiry, data collection, and data analysis. Help us automate a solution!
