Closing the COVID Gap

Help me give my students ELA, Math, and Social-Emotional resources so that I can more effectively teach our kindergarten standards and close gaps that have occurred since the onset of the pandemic.

My Students

I have the opportunity to teach the very best grade - kindergarten! Each student is unique but they all come to school full of excitement, ready to learn everything that I can possibly teach them.

Over the course of the school year I see amazing growth in my students' social and academic development.

Students learn to take turns, to share, to care for one another, and they become readers! Kindergarten truly is the best place in the entire school!

COVID-19 has had an impact on my kindergarteners. Many of them were not able to attend preschool, or even playdates, prior to attending kindergarten. I am working hard to close gaps in social, emotional, and academic development so that students will be ready for first grade. Even with the challenges that the pandemic has brought to kindergarten, there's nowhere else I'd rather teach!

My Project

Using the ELA materials, such as the alphabet tubs and sound magnets, I will be able to conduct hands-on, engaging interventions with students who are struggling to learn alphabet letter names and sounds. After closing that gap, the additional ELA materials can be used to work with students on moving forward, creating words.

Math materials will be extremely beneficial for my kindergarteners as they learn best through interactive activities.

Being able to touch and examine 3-D shapes, create 2-D shapes, and use their own 10 frames will all be possible through this donation. I will be able to provide hands on learning for tricky math standards with these materials.

Finally, the donation of picture books will allow me to expand on kindergarten writing standards. Reading mentor texts to students gives them exposure to exemplary writing as they begin to develop their own skills. It will allow me to go beyond basic instruction in writing.
