My students need an iPad with accessories to view videos that teach basic routines and procedures to new students which keeps the teacher working with other children.
Our teacher needs to be in too many places at one time! We get new faces in our class on a regular basis. These students need to be "shown the ropes" but the rest of the students still need the teacher's full-time attention. Solution - Teacher made videos that teach our procedures and routines.
My wonderful second grade students come from diverse backgrounds.
Many are refuges and more than half are learning English as a second language. They enter school full of intelligence and potential. They are eager to learn and embrace each experience I give them.
My Project
My students need an iPad with accessories to view videos that teach basic routines and procedures to new students which keeps the teacher is working with other children. A classroom iPad will let my continuous supply of new students get acquainted with with class as soon as they join us. They will be able to view videos of me explaining and demonstrating class procedures and routines. They will know where our supplies are kept. They will know how to use the supplies. They will know how to do the assignments and where to turn them in. They will know where the bathrooms are and how to get the hall pass to use them.
I will be able to teach them these things and more without taking valuable time away from the rest of the students.
I will also be able to make instructional videos for classroom volunteers. Parents and other adults want to spend an hour or so in the classroom to help. Unfortunately, it is not helpful to stop teaching while I show them what needs to be done and how to do it. Videos can also solve this problem and make the best use of volunteers.
Finally, the iPad will be used to teach small groups through instructional games.
Every moment of student contact time needs to be used to its utmost potential.
This project will make much more efficient use of my time in the class with my students. They will not have to wait while I get the newest student up to date, or while I show a volunteer how to best help the class. This will allow me to stay available to all my students at all times. This will make learning optimal every day!
