My beautiful second grade class is a room full of diverse cultures and backgrounds. These seven and eight year old children love art the same way all young children do. They look forward to our Friday art time and thrive when given the chance to be creative even though we are only using copy paper, pencils and crayons. My students come from around the world. Some are refugee or first generation Americans. The students predominately come from poverty and can't contribute to class supplies. My classroom budget is quickly depleted each year just providing the pencils, paper, and books my students need. I search Thrift stores and sales at big box stores to provided needed uniforms, winter coats, gloves and hats. Items such as art supplies would be purchased last if there was any money. Sadly there never is.
