I teach 21 kindergartners who are enthusiastic about learning. They are full of questions and make great strides each day. They are jumping feet first into school and show up each day with a smile.
They cheer when it's time for readers workshop, morning work, or math workshop.
Their excitement for learning is evident in their engagement during class discussions and exploration. They are focusing each day on strengthening their respect, responsibility, and safety within the community. They are a group that looks after one another and respectfully share their ideas.
These clipboards and cushions will allow students the opportunity to start taking responsibility for their learning. Students will be able to make choices about where they feel they can finish their independent work. Some of my students have a hard time sitting in their chairs, and they show more focus when they are able to sit on a cushion or lie down on their stomachs which they can do with a clipboard.
Beginning to take responsibility for their learning in kindergarten will help my students feel engaged and start to build their confidence as students.
While these clipboards and Soft Seats may not seem like they could do much, they are empowering for learners.
