Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

Believe it or not, most of my East Harlem fifth graders enjoy spending time away from their desks (working on math projects or in book clubs), on floor pillows or on the benches I have throughout my classroom. I love that my kids enjoy working in groups away from their desks. However, it's not very practical since they don't have anything to lean on! The lack of something to lean on also becomes apparent when students are sitting on the rug during daily non-fiction read alouds. They take notes about the important things they are learning and often are leaning on a workbook or something else that is not sturdy enough to hold their papers properly. I have a few clipboards in my classroom, but not nearly enough to accommodate all of my students. I've put clipboards on my classroom supply list for the past two Septembers, but due to the financial hardships of nearly all of my students' families, very few children have actually brought in clipboards for classroom use. Therefore, I need your help in making sure that each and every one of my students has a suitable clipboard for classroom use. Do you think you can help me out with this request?
