Climate and the Environment

Help me give my students the opportunity to grow a school garden. I teach K-3 science in an an urban school and I would love to let the students enjoy the experience of gardening.

My Project

Teaching science to my K-3 students is such a passion and pleasure. For the last two years, I have attempted to grow what we have planted in class and we have, but I saw these incredible raised garden boxes that will make this experience even better. Currently, I just dig into the ground and buy cheap dollar store wire to frame the area so that it doesn't get mowed down. The custodian and staff are very supportive but keeping the garden weeded and maintained has been difficult. These beautiful garden boxes will make the space beautiful and more successful. I have also collaborated with our art teacher and she would love to have the students paint them.

Please consider helping our urban school bring fresh food that we have grown ourselves to the classroom.

These hands on real life lessons in gardening and community service will make an impact on the students' understanding of the plant life cycle, pollination, composting, healthy eating and much more. Finally, these gardening boxes will be used year after year to enhance the students' learning.
