Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The scientists in my class get to do labs every day but don't get the practice in test questions that they desperately need.

My students live in a low income community in Massachusetts.

They are hard, invested workers but are not given access to an equal education. The science scores on the 8th grade MCAS are dismal and it is my task to give them the skills needed to pass this test!

My Project

These clickers will allow me to quickly formatively assess my students in real time in the classroom. Students will be able to demonstrate their mastery of the content by choosing answers that I can immediately see on my computer. I will then be able to follow up immediately and won't have to wait until I hand grade student responses. This will also allow me to save on paper and printing costs by simply showing the questions on the board and having students answer on the clickers instead of with paper and pen. Finally, this project will allow all students to participate meaningfully in a more comfortable setting.

Massachusetts recently changed their science standards so that students are required to pass a science MCAS test before graduating High School.

By allowing them to practice these types of questions frequently and get real time feedback they will be able to better succeed on their 8th grade test and in high school!
