My Students

Help! Our newspaper currently can not take many pictures! I have a class of 10th-12th graders who are desperately in need of a digital camera, SD card(s), and rechargeable batteries to complete assignments for their journalism class. This class is a pathway to graduation for these students and there is a technology component which we are currently missing! These high school students are not able to put any pictures, video, technology component into their online web site and print paper. Therefore, because this technology component is missing, our school newspaper is very boring! These items will provide these students with a real opportunity to use technology and incorporate pictures in the school newspaper and journalism class. Your donation would be greatly appreciated!

Our community is very small and over 53% of our students qualified for the free or reduced lunch program.

According to the U.S. Census, "The per capita income for the families served by our school is nearly 50% less than the surrounding areas and significantly less than North Carolina's average". As a result of the high poverty, these students simply do not have the resources to purchase cameras on their own.

My Project

Simply put, I teach in a high poverty area. These students really need to experience the use of technology and a digital camera before they graduate from high school. I have a classroom full of students who have skill and talent in writing. I would love it if we could provide this resource for our students so that they can compete in the 21st century against other schools which may already have this technology! I am choosing the most basic camera I can find and I am requesting a donation for that camera, two SD cards for storing pictures, and some rechargeable AA batteries to keep this camera going for years to come.
