My students are so ready to learn, it amazes me every day. They have challenges that would make most adults sluggishly enter work, but most of them come in with a smile. Some children are homeless or move multiple times in one school year. They are shuffled around to different adults and many don't have the luxury of regular, healthy meals. They feel at home in the warm environment of school. They trust the adults here and lean on us not just for academic support but for emotional support as well.
These curious little creatures are waiting to be challenged, they are ready to solve problems in creative, new ways.
They have so many academic hurdles to climb. For some of them it's a different language, others it's a disability and many suffer from stress related to past experiences. They put in so much effort and the gains they make every year are astounding. They make me believe anything is possible if you put in the effort and don't give up.
My Project
The addition of Chromebooks into our classroom will literally change students' lives. They will be able to use images in a whole new way.
Students will have access to websites that allow them to practice essential skills in a fun and engaging way.
They will be able to do STEM type projects by allowing them to research engineering topics. They can see science in action with real videos of natural processes. Students can take virtual field trips to anywhere in the world. They can connect with students in real time instead of just being penpals.
Creative writing will come alive with new fonts and features that actually add moving illustrations to their stories! Struggling writers can add phrases, change them and move them with the click of a button. They can use storyboards to make comic strips to bring characters to life.
