it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
What good is a classroom computer without appropriate software and hardware to aid my students in the learning process?
We are an urban school that serves entirely minority students.
All our students qualify for free or reduced lunch and live in socioeconomically challenged neighborhoods. My eight and nine year old third grade students are extremely motivated to learn and all have set high expectations for themselves to graduate high-school, even though statistics in our city show that only 20 percent will accomplish this. For many of the students the only time English is spoken is during school and unfortunately for most, few have computers or interact with technology at home.
My Project
My students need Microsoft Word so they can learn to publish their writing. This additional software will motivate my students to write at their highest potential.
My students need wireless keyboards, microphones and headphones to practice their fluency. This fluency practice will be recorded on our computers with these additional hardware materials. These recorded stories will be sent to a local elementary school for visually challenged students as part of a classroom partnership.
Motivating my students to read and write is the foundation for their success.
As their teacher, my responsibility is to engage and motivate my students and make sure they reach their highest potential. This motivating tool will encourage my students to produce high-quality work while using technology.
