Help me give my students a quality document camera that can be utilized to teach lessons, display examples of student work, and to project mentor texts onto the board.
I teach two classes of amazing fourth grade students! I teach literacy skills, science, and social studies to 37 students. The fourth graders are creative and artistic. They enjoy collaborating and working together on science and social studies projects.
In our fourth grade classroom we focus on teamwork, effort, kindness, and empathy.
I am grateful, and my students are thankful to have such quality materials thanks to caring, generous donors! The materials and supplies donated to our classroom will be valued, respected, and utilized for many years to come!
My Project
When I attended elementary school, document cameras did not exist. Then, when my teaching career began, I utilized an overhead transparency machine. If I desired to display examples of student work, I simply photocopied the document on transparency film and utilized it during a lesson. Now, with document cameras, it is very easy to project texts, student work, and graphic organizers on the front board largely for all students to see. I currently have a document camera, and like to use it daily during lessons, but it is often blurry on the screen and does not project a full line of text across the screen.
When I read aloud books to the class, I like to use a document camera to project the text and illustrations on the screen so all students can see the text and pictures.
Document cameras also allow students to show their learning and thinking to the class by projecting their writing, science journals, and graphic organizers to the class. During lessons it is beneficial to read, highlight, and take notes on a text while modeling these strategies to the class.
I have been using document cameras for many years. Since I tend to write underneath it and show information to the class, it would be beneficial to have a document camera that adjusts to the motion of handwriting. Currently, when I write or change pages, I need to refocus the document camera so it is not blurry for students. (Students are eager to continue reading the next page in the text, and patiently wait to view the text or picture.) An ELMO document camera would CLEARly be appreciated!
