Cleanliness in Culinary!

Help me give my students an immersive culinary education. I teach Family and Consumer Sciences to 7th and 8th graders. This project includes gloves, aprons, portion cups, etc. to ensure a safe and healthy cooking environment.

My Project

As a Family and Consumer Sciences teacher, I am able to focus on many different areas including culinary arts. I feel that an important piece of culinary is precision and accuracy. I have chosen portion cups and a digital clock to support these concepts. I have found that students struggle with measuring ingredients and following a recipe simultaneously. Portion cups would allow students to focus on measurements before returning to their kitchen area for prep. I have also found that students struggle to utilize an analog clock in the kitchen. A digital clock would ensure accuracy with timings.

As my students dive into the world of cooking, I strive to ensure safety and cleanliness is their number one priority.

Many of my students have little to no experience cooking. This provides me with an excellent opportunity to create routines that ensure food safety. The supplies I have selected for this project allow students to safely prepare food through the utilization of disposable gloves and multi use aprons.

Students also study the science side of food in class. They find this aspect intriguing and exciting. This is accomplished through the investigation of baking and the effects of different ingredients. Additionally, students learn about the production and processing of chocolate.
