My Students

Many of my students come from single-parent homes where one or both parents may be incarcerated or deceased, or just not present in their lives. Many of my students are below the average math and reading level for fifth graders, but they never give up trying. And on many days I am providing supplies for my students just so they can write something down.

Each morning, my students see a smiling and happy teacher greeting them and getting them ready for the day.

I am sure there are several of them that probably didn't get a good night's sleep because they were either home alone all night, or babysitting a younger sibling. My students have many responsibilities outside of school.

The students in my classroom are really looking forward to a new school year where we are getting back to working in small groups. These students are ready to learn and looking forward to that!

My Project

Many of my students come to me throughout the day asking for a snack. It's hard to concentrate when your stomach is growling and you need something to eat. My students don't always have a snack with them, so if I had a supply, I could give them a snack.

Eating in a clean environment will help stop the spread of germs.

My students also work really hard when we have our monthly tests. They earn candy rewards when they score higher than the previous month. The more they grow on test scores, the more rewards they earn.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
