We have a very diverse group of kindergartners in our small town school. Our students are five to six years old and range in capabilities. We have a student that can read on a sixth grade level and some that have special needs. As diverse as they may be in the educational needs, they all share a desire and love to learn.
One common thread between them is that we do not live in a community with a lot of money.
Many have lost their jobs either in the coal mines or the steel mill. As a result of the coal mines and steel mills shutting down, our school system has also lost a lot funding. As educators, we spend a lot of money out of our own pockets to meet most of our classroom needs. Even though its been rough in our community, in our classroom, we are one big upbeat, happy, positive learning family in our kindergarten room. In this room, the students and learning always comes first.
My Project
In our classroom we like everything has a purpose. We would love it if everything had its place. Our students work hard to keep our room clean and organized but sometimes the right tools can make that much easier.
The growing need for organization in our room is overwhelming.
We have STEM projects, phonics, math, building materials, paper and art project supplies to keep in our room. The growing demand for a diverse learning experience has lead us to realize were running out of room and totes to keep all we need to make learning fun and exciting. These toy organizers and bins will be a tremendous help to us and our students to keep our room organized and our supplies in good shape. The laundry hampers are perfect for the large STEM items like building block, linking cubes and structure sticks. The items included in our project accommodate a variety of items that range in size from a rubber band to blocks large enough to build the Eiffel Tower.
