My students are warm-hearted and curious. They appreciate everything they get, as many of them come from households without anything. In art, I try to provide a fun and educational experience for them. Today, I did clay with them for the first time and they were over the moon happy. Many of them use my drawing and art books. They get used so much that they fall apart. They love to paint. The paper we have is thin, so sometimes they create holes in their paper when painting, because of the poor quality. Art is an escape from the drudgery of testing and facts that might not always have a lot of meaning to them. I often hear, "Ms. Dubin, I love art. Art is my favorite special!"
The art room is a wonderful place, but it gets messy and dirty. I spend my own money on cleaning supplies to keep it a wonderful environment for my students. The school paper towels don't absorb anything! They barely come out of the dispenser (when it isn't empty!).
Really absorbent paper towels, great sponges with a scrubby side, cleaners, and hand lotions will help my students really maximize their experience in the art room.
I do a lot of clay, so you can see how I would need cleaning materials. The hand lotion is for the kids, as clay is very drying on the hands.
