This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

As many of you already know, I help contribute to the Wildcat Giving Closet on our site. This closet is run 100% off donations. Without your support, we would not be able to provide our students and their families with school supplies, shoes, hygiene products, or uniforms. The closet is visited at least three times a day from a variety of students and parents asking for help.

It still baffles me when a child tells me that they only own one or two sets of uniform clothes for school.

They are required to wear uniforms every day so you can only imagine the burden they regularly face and the relief they feel when your contributions are given to them. We created a survey that was recently given out to our students asking about their uniform status. About 45% of our Wildcat students shared on the survey that they "don't have enough uniforms to get through the week." 20% of those students only own 1-2 sets of uniforms.

This project aims to focus on the 20% of the students who selected that they "barely have any uniforms to wear" (1-2 sets). Even with some assistance from a local church and the Assistance League, about one-fourth of our students own between 1-3 uniform bottoms and/or uniform tops. Our hope is to provide two uniform tops and bottoms to every child in need.

With this project, we hope to release some of the burdens off the student so that they can focus on their academics and not on how dirty or old their clothes look. With your help, we will be able to provide uniform pants for 50-70 of our students in the greatest need. Thank you for considering this project and being a part of the Donors Choose community.
