This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are in Kindergarten and First Grade. Most have a diagnosis of autism and range from non-verbal to chatty. They come from a variety of backgrounds. They have wonderful and supportive families who want the best for their children.
No two days are the same in our Autistic Support classroom but every day is unique, complete with challenges as well as triumphs!
My students love music, movement, and hands-on activities. Most love interacting with adults but are not so sure about their peers. They do not always love academics. We spend lots of our time learning school rules and routines to improve comfort levels in the classroom. We interact with our neighbors in the next classroom to build our social skills.
Our days are spent in many small groups addressing individual needs mixed with some large group activities to teach attention skills. We are on the go from the minute their feet cross the threshold, and I wouldn't want to have it any other way!
My Project
Cleaning supplies are the key to keeping staff and students healthy throughout the school year. Lysol wipes are a daily necessity in a classroom full of young learners. Paper towels clean up the many spills that happen in the course of a busy day. A dustpan and broom are essential for picking up messes made as we learn to use scissors. Tissues are vital when the colds hit.
Germs are everywhere, and my young students can be extra vulnerable to picking up anything that comes at them during their first years in school.
Sickness means absences and absences mean learning and progress is interrupted. These supplies will allow us to keep our classroom clean and keep everyone in it healthy as we jump into a brand new school year.
