This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
In my classroom, the students are focused on learning about culinary arts. Our school is home to many Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs that provide opportunities for job preparation after high school. We have a great arts program, as well.
NHS is a large, urban, public school with almost 2,500 ethnically, culturally, and socioeconomically diverse students.
The campus has five small learning communities and is home to our school's Math/Science Magnet. Our students come from a variety of different economic backgrounds, with a majority of our students receiving free lunch. Our school is also one of the most ethnically diverse schools in the area. Our students speak a multitude of languages including English, Spanish, Tagalog, and more.
My Project
In the culinary arts classroom, cleanliness and good health are essential when preparing food for others. During cold season, many of my students come to school ill-prepared to deal with colds and the flu.
The tissue that we've requested will help students maintain good hygiene standards even when they aren't feeling their best.
We aren't provided tissue by the school, so the students end up using napkins to blow their nose.
We've also requested some personal hygiene products for the young ladies who need the supplies.
Accidents do happen in the kitchen and/or students may come from home with injuries and have no bandages to cover them. They should be able to have access to bandages both in and out of the classroom, as well as gloves to protect both them and the food we prepare.
We really feel that these basic supplies will go a long way towards helping our students feel clean and safe!
