Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Over the past three years, I have worked hard to instill a culture of personal care, cleanliness and hygiene in my classroom. My art students share supplies across all classes, which means roughly 75 pairs of hands touch every item every day in my room. To help keep all of us healthy and happy I provide health and wellness essentials for my students.
If we have learned anything from the pandemic, it is how important hygiene and personal care should be.
Not only are these items essential for helping rid my art room of germs and keeping myself and the students healthy, I have also found a simple bottle of lotion or hand sanitizer on my desk can be a great way to make a connection with students. My artists will often stop by at the beginning of the day or end of the day or in between classes for a bit of lotion, a tissue, or some hand sanitizer and a quick chat. This gives me the opportunity to check in with them on a more one on one basis; often giving me a quick second to discuss their mental wellness as well.
