Clay Slab It Up!

My students need a slab roller for creating more clay projects!

My Students

Our school is an incredible and unique school in our very large school district. We house two schools within one that includes K4 through eighth grade. One half of our school community is on a title one level with many students in hard home situations. The other half is our magnet school for the talented and gifted students in our district. We have such an amazing opportunity to reach these students in all different ways.

Creativity and exploration are crucial in expanding these students' minds to think creatively, critically, and solve complex problems.

I seek to help my students in that creative adventure! I teach art to all of these students- at every level and age. My classroom is an opportunity to give some students experiences they have never had. It is also a resource to push more experienced students in their artistic development.

My Project

This slab roller will help students of all ages construct creative clay pieces.

The slab roller rolls out flat, even slabs of clay so students can more easily use hand-building techniques in designing their artwork.

A slab roller is especially helpful for the art teacher in preparation for hundreds of students working with clay in one school day!

For the younger students, a slab roller helps them get more even slabs, instead of using a rolling pin. This also prevents air bubbles that can cause clay pieces to explode in the kiln.

The older students will be able to do more complex projects with the slab roller.
