Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

Students' eyes light up and they become excited when art is part of their learning! I teach fourth grade with many English Language Learners who love to make ceramic figures and designs to illustrate the characters in the stories they are reading.

More recently, we have been learning about "setting" (for example: in a desert; on an island; in a forest) in our study of literature. In our ceramic work the students have started to make projects depicting the settings of their favorite stories. However, we have been limited in making slab sculptures by having to use a rolling pin to flatten the clay for each of the 30 students.

A piece of equipment called a slab roller would be a tremendous tool to flatten the clay quickly and uniformly (and we could share it with the rest of the school)!

Your generous help with this project will impact young learners in many ways. You will not only assist children in bringing their reading experiences to life through art, but you will also be able to help students learn how to prepare their materials as young artists participating in the ceramic experience! Finally, you will also provide a needed piece of equipment to enhance the entire school's art program!
