Classrooms Run Better When Things Are Flexible, Motivating, and Soothing
Help me give my students items to help fulfill sensory and learning needs! The Wobble Chairs and Balance Ball Seats will benefit during instructional time and the tablet can help incorporate various ways to practice and generalize skills.
My students are the brightest, sweetest, most energetic bunch you will ever meet! Each of my students has autism, giving them different capabilities and skills that make them who they are. The students are constantly on the go and interested in exploring new things. I currently have two second graders and two third graders, all willing to learn and try new things. Our autism program allows us to have our own classroom in a typical elementary school. In our classroom, the students are provided with the support, materials, and modifications they need to be successful by trained staff. My students have the opportunity to integrate with the general education students for specials, such as music, art, and gym.
Each of my students has varying needs that must be met individually.
Some of these include the way they learn, assistance with self-help skills, sensory needs, etc. The types of activities that my students like also range in variety from completing puzzles, playing catch, watching videos, and so much more. My students are so much more than the label they are given and deserve to have the best classroom possible!
My Project
Flexible seating allows my children to choose how they want to sit while also fulfilling their sensory needs. The Wobble Seats and Balance Ball Seats still allow my students to move while remaining at the table during instruction. Keeping the students moving will decrease disruptions allowing for more instructional time to address the student's skills and needs. The Bean Bag Chair will be used in our break area when the students need a minute to themselves to get back into work mode!
The Amazon Fire tablet will help in generalizing the students' skills through various games and other applications.
Skill generalization is extremely important for students with autism, and that includes being able to perform their skills across various materials. Teaching the students how to use a tablet will increase their independence during work time. Tablets are also high motivators for some of my students. The students will be able to work for playing on the tablet or for watching a video they enjoy. Having a highly motivating reinforcer will increase the students' will to work and practice skills!
