My Students

My 9th grade English students come from a variety of backgrounds, abilities, and interests from four sending communities. My students choose this school to get the best of two worlds—an academic and technical education. Many of my students are more invested in the technical aspect of my school so offering many classroom options for independent reading is one key to acedemic success.

The students in my classes vary so much because they come from four different communities.

I have at-risk youths, farming family kids, inner city kids, two-parent homes, foster family or group home kids, homeless kids, comedians, athletes, artists, blue collar workers, college bound or career bound. The options are unlimited!

My Project

Students become better readers when they have a variety of choices for their own independent reading book. My classroom library has been well loved and well used over the years but it needs some fresh titles to appeal to a variety of reading levels and interests. Boxed sets, dystopian settings, teen angst and even some self-help options are the type of books my inner city youths are drawn to on the bookcase. By donating to this project, you will allow students to choose books that interest them, foster the love of reading, and ultimately help increase student achievement and motivation.

Students who don’t have a permanent place to call home don’t always have access to libraries or book stores.

Having brand new books to loan out will mean a lot to to those kids. I don’t give deadlines for returns!
