I work in an inner-city school teaching mathematics. We work hard to understand and bring together what my students have learned in the past two years of the mathematics career. My students are struggling math students from an inner-city school, who work very hard. They are all about their future and working hard to achieve their biggest goal which is college.
My students come from various backgrounds including refugees, first-generation college-bound, and low-economics.
I have been working with these students for the past seventeen years and I love every moment of my time with my students. We have been working hard to find mathematics outside the typical mathematics structure of the math book.
My Project
We are in a building which was built in the 1970s and some of our supplies are just as outdated. We have the original chalkboards which have more tape on them, then space to write with chalk.
Our one and only bookcase in the room is barely big enough to house our books, let alone a small library of supplies and reference books.
Our room has many crates which house any extra books and notebooks we need to store for classroom use.
The bookcase and the whiteboard will be used as updates to the current state of our chalkboards and bookcase. Students will be able to work on their own whiteboards with the new dry erase markers and erasers.
