The water bottles are a huge hit! The kids are enjoying choosing stickers and designing their own bottles. The lap pads, that are weighted blankets, seem to be effective with the students. With a population in our classroom, the stress balls are magnificent for the children because they can request to use one when they are feeling at risk in any given situation. The dice that we have are a great way to end the day before the children go home. Sula by Toni Morrison, The Gold Finch by Donna Tartt, Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen, and August Wilson's 10-play cycle. These works introduce a wealth of skills and lessons, and they offer rich material for discussion, analysis, and interpretation. \r\n\r\nBooks like Sula and The Goldfinch challenge readers to think critically about character development, morality, and the impact of past events on the present. For example, Sula encourages readers to consider the complexity of friendship, loyalty, and betrayal, while The Goldfinch explores themes of loss, trauma, and the search for meaning.\r\n\r\nPride and Prejudice provides a fantastic opportunity for students to examine the historical and social contexts of the early 19th century in England, especially in terms of class, gender roles, and marriage. Similarly, August Wilson's plays, which deal with African American experiences throughout the 20th century, give students a deeper understanding of race, identity, and the struggle for equality in American society.\r\n\r\nAll these texts introduce students to a wide range of literary devices—symbolism, metaphor, irony, and character foils. In Sula, for instance, the symbolism of the river and the role of place in shaping character development can be a compelling lesson for students in terms of setting's role in literature. The intricate narrative style of The Goldfinch offers a chance to teach about unreliable narrators, flashbacks, and narrative structure.\r\n\r\nThe characters in these texts are multifaceted and complex, helping students to engage with diverse perspectives. Sula invites empathy for marginalized and complicated characters, while The Goldfinch and Pride and Prejudice allow readers to reflect on the nature of personal growth, relationships, and class differences.\r\n\r\nAugust Wilson's plays present a chance to explore themes of racial and cultural identity, family dynamics, and generational conflict. These plays help students understand the significance of personal and community struggle, often offering profound insights into history and human resilience.\r\n\r\nThese books invite deep analysis of themes, character motivations, and narrative structures. For example, reading Pride and Prejudice in a classroom could lead to lively discussions about Elizabeth Bennet's character and the social norms she challenges. Similarly, students might analyze the symbolic meaning of \"the goldfinch\" in Donna Tartt's novel and connect it to the main character's journey of loss and redemption.","fullyFundedDate":1736550326897,"projectUrl":"project/mrs-verdi-ap-literature-books/8763198/","projectTitle":"Mrs. Verdi AP Literature Books","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Verdi","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9742584_orig.jpg?crop=2316,2316,x0,y69&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1726053133018","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9742584"},{"teacherId":2820421,"projectId":8529391,"letterContent":"On behalf of my students and myself, I want to extend my deepest gratitude for your generous donation to our classroom.
