This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Hello! I am a new teacher starting from scratch. I serve 9th grade SLIFE (students with limited or interrupted formal education) in inner city Trenton, New Jersey. In preparing for the school year, I was given a small budget for supplies: pencils, pens, an electric pencil sharpener, composition notebooks, and dry erase markers. This was as far as my allotted $200 budget could stretch. This is why my priority request through DonorsChoose is for basic classroom supplies: binders so students can keep their work organized, filler lined paper, pencils, erasers, and Lysol spray (to keep our classroom as germ-free as possible). It is vitally important to create personalized learning plans for students. In teaching SLIFE students, I know I will be teaching many important skills such as interpersonal communication, literacy, mathematics, technology and more. It will be essential to differentiate instruction, which the use of binders (student portfolios) will facilitate. *Binders to create student portfolios and individualized reference book.
*Pencils and erasers are very important for English Language Learners because mistakes are an essential part of learning.
