My Students

Our inner city students are in a high poverty area, the highest in Pennsylvania, whom are provided with a free breakfast, lunch and snack program daily. Violence in the city is on the rise and school is considered one of their safest and most reliable places to be during the day. This year alone many of them have lost loved ones due to gun violence. East Middle School is considered a Title 1 school. Typically there are 25 to 30 students in a classroom with no aides.

My Project

Middle school students need supplies to help them keep their ideas organized. During writing class my kids will use markers, crayons and highlighters daily to stay engaged in their work. We are learning to write using the official Writing Process and each step requires much organization and thought. Folders will help keep each class set together, easier for grading as well. Highlighters will allow students to edit and revise on their own or with a peer. Crayons and markers are used to help their work come alive through an illustration. Your support will be much appreciated as we use these supplies throughout the school year!
