My students need the math manipulatives for learning place value. Having an easel whiteboard will allow me to teach small group lessons on the front carpet or at the back desk.
Our school is a public charter school for students K-8th. We are an arts-integration based new charter school in the Reno, Nevada area and our students are ready to begin this exciting new school year!
By integrating STEAM into literacy, my students will learn problem-solving and critical thinking skills, and will have the opportunity for hands-on activities.
I am a first year teacher, and am enthusiastic to begin this year! I am eager to continually learn from all of my students throughout the year.
My goal is to start this year off with math place value blocks that will capture my students' attention and develop their love for learning. I hope to provide students with storage bins to teach them organization skills. Having a mobile whiteboard at the guided reading table in my classroom will allow me to teach mini lessons to students who may be struggling or in need of further instruction.
My Project
The math manipulatives I have chosen will help students learn place value. I will use the magnetic place value blocks as visuals for students on the board. This will give them the opportunity to place them on or take them off the board as they solve problems. Visuals are highly effective in teaching students math and how to use numbers.
Organization is the key to a successful classroom!
Being able to have a place for everything and know where it is will give me the ability to stay focused throughout the day and not be worrying about possible misplaced items. I want to teach my students organization skills with the help of the labeled storage drawers. It will give students a place to keep their items to avoid them from getting lost.
Having an easel whiteboard will allow me to teach small group lessons at the front of the room, at the back desk or move it around the classroom as needed. This provides me opportunities to further instruction for students who need extra support. A pencil sharpener is important to keep all pencils sharpened in my classroom. I hope to use it as a classroom job to sharpen pencils for students to learn responsibility. The saucer chair will be perfect for students to use as flexible seating, which allows for more student choice.
