My students need a variety of supplies, like a binding system and paper, to begin the school year prepared and ready to explore the fourth grade curriculum on the first day of school.
I consider myself lucky to have the opportunity to teach at a wonderful, supportive, community school. in rural North Carolina. I teach fourth grade at a Title I school of dedicated, curious, and passionate students from diverse backgrounds. At the beginning of the school year, the majority of my students have the basic supplies that they need to be successful throughout the year.
However, many essential classroom supplies are not provided by families, and I find myself purchasing the supplies out of my own pocket.
While I take great pride in providing for my students as best as I can, I am hopeful that I can get some assistance in doing so this school year.
My students are eager to succeed and show their "Bulldog Pride" on all tasks, but may lack the necessary learning tools to do so. I am reaching out for help from donors like yourself, so that my students will receive supplies that will foster learning and maintain our productive learning environment for the school year, and years to come!
My Project
As the new school year quickly approaches, I am so excited to begin my fifth year teaching fourth grade! In fourth grade, my teammate and I try to teach our students essential organizational skills that will help them as they progress through school. My students need pencil pouches, highlighters, sheet protectors, and colorful paper for binder dividers. The pencil pouches will be put in our students' binders with their pencils, coloring materials, and highlighter that will be used for learning purposes. At the beginning of the year, my teammate and I create dividers for our students based on key subjects and topics for the school year, which is what we will use the colorful paper and sheet protectors for. As you can imagine, those supplies can get very expensive when we are providing them for our students on our own.
My students also need a binding system and binding spines that will be used to create student learning portfolios and "Cursive Writing Packets" this school year.
As my teammate and I are preparing to teach our students cursive writing for the first time, we quickly realized that we do not have any instructional materials to do so! While this poses a great challenge to us, we have located a resource that we paid for, out of pocket, that will be printed for each child. Stapling the 100+ page packet is not a feasible option, as the packet is thick and the stapling will not last for the duration of the school year. We are hopeful that the binding system will solve this problem!
I am looking forward to the upcoming school year and I am thankful for your help in providing these supplies for my students!
