My typical day in my classroom is a world of adventure and wonder. I teach middle school, so I am naturally down-to-earth and I have a great sense of humor! You have to be if you work with teenagers!
They are from St.
Bernard Parish. It was devastated during Hurricane Katrina. Our district is better than ever. The parish is a true testament of what happens when people work together to solve problems. My school has about 700 students of many different nationalities. It is a top rated middle school in our state. We work very hard to help students achieve their goals, and learn about our world in many different ways. Our school is situated in a very close knit community. The parents are very much involved with their child's education. It is a privilege to be a teacher in such a wonderful school.
My Project
Because of the generosity of donors from this site, my students were recently funded for GPS units! As soon as we get them in next week, we are ready to explore social studies outside of the classroom. I will take the 6 GPS units and set 6 "way points" around the school. A way point is a secret place that I want my students to locate a social studies activity. The plastic bins that I requested on this project are for that reason. I will put a social study related activity in the box. There will be 6 different activities, thus the need for 6 different bins. The other items I requested on this project are the actual social studies activity I will put in the bins. One of the activities is a hands on prehistorical dig. The students get to pretend they are uncovering a treasure. Another activity allows the students to write his or her name in hieroglyphics. The potential for this activity is endless.
The GPS units will enable my students to learn about longitude and latitude in a hands-on approach.
It will change their lives for the better because it could spark a life long learning of travel destinations.
