Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach students that are in a dual language immersion program; some of my students are learning Spanish while others are native speakers of Spanish. Half of their day is spent in my classroom learning content in Spanish, and half of their day is spent in another classroom learning content in English. The goal is for all the students to become bilingual and biliterate. My students have a unique opportunity to acquire a new language and open their world through new cultures.
My Project
Students work hard to stay on track in school and receive tickets that they can spend once a month at our class store. I am buying some new items to keep the store fresh. A popular item is a squishy animal toy and this time I have found some glow in the dark ones!
Improving their Spanish reading level while meeting their needs.
Buying books for our small reading groups will allow me to read an entire chapter book at the pace of the individuals in the group rather than using a whole group instruction approach. I am extremely excited to implement this strategy in class with my students!
