My wonderful class consists of 25 precious students. Fourteen playful boys and twelve bright girls make up my 2018-2019 sixth grade class. The learners in my class love to do projects and hands on activities. Scientific Inquiry and project based learning are the strategies that I have been using to teach the content my students need to know and understand in order to be successful in the areas of science. My students are involved in a variety of extra-curricular activities such as baseball, soccer, dance, chorus, robotics, football, and volleyball. My students are voracious readers who are naturally curious and love to read informational texts like Scholastic Scope Magazines, Ranger Rick and National Geographic.
My students are social butterflies and learn best when working in cooperative groups.
My students respect each other and work together to find solutions. Several of my students are athletic and have a competitive drive. We do a lot of activities where my students have to plan, engineer, illustrate, evaluate, and then present their ideas. The first few weeks of school we established expectations and talk about the importance of friendly competition and having gracious professionalism.
My Project
I work with students who are affected by generational poverty on a daily basis. I see many things. I see students whose shoes are held together by electrical tape. I see students who have perfect attendance because the only meals they receive are through the public school's cafeteria. This is my first year here and I am trying to make a difference in these students' lives.
My classroom is a place of refuge from outside stressors!
I will love, inspire and teach my students that they are brilliant. I want my students to think, feel, and choose to do the right thing in every circumstance in life! These materials will help my students have the materials they need as we delve into Project Based Learning Projects and STEAM activities in my sixth grade science classroom! My kiddos need folders, sharpies, paper, pens, paper towels, and index cards so they can stay oraganized and record their data and findings. These materials will enable my students to analyze and record data so they can carry out investigations. Also as they research in collaborative groups they can record their findings and illustrate their design ideas. These pens, paper, binders, paper towels are things that all scientist need.
