My Students
I have the privilege of working with 140 seventh graders as they navigate the awkward years of middle school. From ages 12 - 16, the students you are choosing to help are full of an unyielding optimism for their future. Over 90% of these incredible students qualify for free or reduced price lunch and face so many other obstacles in their lives.
Despite the barriers these students may face, they work hard to embrace the nature of scientific inquiry.
These students are going through what can often be one of the most emotional and difficult times in their lives and deserve the same opportunities as their peers.
My Project
Our classroom was very fortunate to start the year off with some unique donations in the form of a class set of white boards and a Polaroid camera. We started some wonderful weekly class activities that involve both and we are running low on supplies! We need new dry erase markers, writing utensils, and film to continue our classroom mission.
These materials are essential in sustaining the positive classroom culture we have all worked so hard to build.
Each week, a student of the week is selected from each class and their photo is added to our science student shoutout board. The excitement of students seeing their face on the board as a permanent fixture in the room is powerful.
In addition, the white boards allow us to practice skills without wasting paper. The ability for students to easily wipe away mistakes and write large helps students to think through processes.
