Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My classroom spends a lot of time moving! We start and end the school day with classroom meetings on the carpet. My students work in small groups for math and reading work stations in various locations around the classroom. We also enjoy listening to stories on the carpet.
My students are excited about learning!
We are a Title 1 school with most of my students being from low income families. 93% of my students are English language learners. Many of my students face hardships at home and deserve a place to feel comfortable and safe at school.
My Project
My students need a classroom carpet where we can all fit together. The current rug I am using is a rug I brought from home that fits less than half my class. The other students sit on the hard floor near the carpet. It is not made for student use and has become very dirty and raggedy. My class uses the carpet multiple times throughout the day. We have whole group meetings and lessons on the carpet. During reading and math stations, students work with each other on the carpet. Students will also read with partners or independently on the carpet.
A durable carpet that will fit the whole class will make our room a more inviting environment for all my students to learn.
A new rug will help all students to feel included and excited to learn!
