My Students

My sixth-grade students are amazing this year! I am working on an amazing team with four amazing teachers. Lehman Middle School is also known as the Career and College Readiness Academy. Our goal is to get students ready for a career or college. Our students come from diverse backgrounds in the inner city of Canton, OH. Nearly all of our students are below the poverty level and qualify for free or reduced lunch. There has been an increase in the number of violent crimes, gang activity and youth suicide in the past year in the city of Canton and Stark County.

Within the four walls of my classroom, I want my students to be able to overcome the obstacles around them in the community.

I want to be their safety net. I want their learning environment to be a encouraging, challenging, safe and loving.

My Project

Many of my students are auditory learners and benefit from having material read aloud to them. This is why I would like sets of headphones so that each student can have their own pair to use in school while using technology sites in class, testing or doing class work.

Interactive notebooks as well as online research make up the majority of my class.

As such, I have also requested materials needed to continue using quality interactive notebooks. These require glue, scissors, and various coloring supplies.

Students become more engaged when they have the necessary materials to enhance their learning. Access to headphones and technology as well as using art materials will allow my students to be more successful and feel better about themselves and their learning.
