My Project

Students in an intermediate autism classroom benefit most from hands-on, multisensory learning experiences that support communication, self-regulation, and engagement. Many of my students learn best by doing, building, touching, and manipulating materials. Items such as Play-Doh, kinetic sand, building kits, and sensory tools provide students with meaningful opportunities to develop fine motor skills, problem-solving abilities, and creativity while also supporting emotional regulation. These materials allow students to access learning in a way that feels safe, motivating, and responsive to their individual sensory needs.

In addition to supporting regulation, these materials promote social interaction, language development, and academic growth.

STEM building sets, letter-based manipulatives, puzzles, and drawing tools encourage collaboration, turn-taking, and communication with peers while reinforcing foundational literacy and engineering concepts. Sensory and fidget tools help students remain focused and calm so they are better able to participate in classroom routines and instruction. Together, these materials will help create a structured yet flexible learning environment where students with autism can build confidence, independence, and essential life skills while actively engaging in their education.
