My Project

I am a second-year language arts teacher. That being said, my class currently has this really ugly yellow wallpaper that went out of style in the 90s. The Shades don't work and were supposed to be replaced four years ago, but the funds were used for other things while COVID was going on. I currently use paper and tape to block out the sun where there are missing panels.

I know that these are mundane quibbles, but it matters when the kids feel like they are in a prison all day; the least I can do is try to make the room look and feel less like one.

When students feel like there is little effort or love put into their well-being (even something as small as what a classroom looks like), they are far less likely to try or put any effort into their education.

I would like to put some wallpaper with adhesive over the old wallpaper. I chose this because it isn't permanent, easy to install, and is relatively cheap. That way, the district doesn't get mad at me for any lasting changes to the classroom, and I can do the installation myself during my free time. I can get around 500 SF for $120.00 on Amazon. While this won't do the entire room, it will give the students at least two walls where they don't have to look at that terrible wallpaper.

For the blinds, I would like to get some covers that go over the windows. Again, it isn't permanent, it's easy to install and relatively cheap. I can get covers for each of the windows for around $50.00.
