This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Our new comic book and manga humanities course is thriving! We are continuously building onto our curriculum, combining civics and language arts goals with added visual components, to provide new reading engagement and literacy development opportunities. We launched the course in 2021 looking to appeal to new students and reach students in new ways by using graphic novels, comic books, and manga as the medium for engagement. The Thor arc in these chapters is a time-jumping story about how the choices we make in life can have ramifications later. This title specifically will help us tap into sociological questions about how we grow and change as people while also having anecdotes about mythology and understanding time and place in stories.

This collection of Thor stories will help add a fun new book to our class library and provide students access to new course materials for a new unit and enrichment experiences towards building literacy skills and a passion for reading regardless of socio-economic status or digital/internet access.

Having a collection of "hard copies" of this Thor collection will provide new ways to meet the diverse learning needs of our students. This will help us to ensure we have the means to engage with our students and continue and increase literacy growth and social-emotional skill development in our students.
