This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
This classroom is full of bright, creative, and kind scholars. These first graders are working harder than ever to get the education they deserve. Even during this unprecedented time, they continue to persevere in paving the road less traveled to college and beyond. They started their 1st grade journey with 100% virtual learning and will soon go into a hybrid model with some students in person and some online. It has been inspiring to see how resilient these 1st graders are with adapting and navigating through the difficulties of technology.
My Project
These books will be used to read aloud to scholars online and in person to teach social issues as well as fostering the love of reading to these first graders! They also will be used to make a classroom library. First grade is such a pivotal time for scholars to learn to read and write, and it is crucial that we close the achievement gap. Unfortunately Covid has made it more difficult to give these scholars the resources and tools to help them achieve their greatness.
I would love to have books in the room that promote diversity and inclusion.
The scholars who come back in person will not be able to leave the classroom and share materials. These books will be our own set of books.
