This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
The students at my school are so eager to learn when they walk into the doors every day. The population of my school is 100% free and reduced lunch, and we have 98% ELL students. These students are full of wonderful questions and are extremely motivated to impress their teachers. The population of our school is a very hands-on community. The kids gravitate towards things they physically get to touch and move around as part of their learning.
As a teacher of such a unique population, I wish so badly that I could give these scholars everything they deserve to be in a learning environment that best suits them.
I am excited to see my students' faces when they see these new gifts all for them!
My Project
By having these materials, I will be able to have small groups of students all reading the same books. We can then go into detail as we are reading the book and talk about what is happening. This will help the students gain a better understanding of what they are reading, and it will allow them to discover what type of book they enjoy the most.
As a Title I teacher, I do not have many actual books for my students to hold and cherish.
I would love to see the look on my students' faces when they get to have a real book off the shelf, and not one just printed from a website.
