Help me give my students more great books! This project is a classroom set of Slaughterhouse-Five and a series of other awesome titles to add to our classroom library.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Our students are creative. Our students are driven. Our students have heart and courage. Young people from all over the greater Charleston area attend our school; many live nearby and walk to school.
The diversity of our student body is our greatest strength.
Although we are a Charter for Math and Science, our students have innumerable talents and skills that go well beyond their STEM classes. They are fully aware of Charleston's rich history and appreciate the city they call home. Simply put, the learning environment at our school is awesome.
My Project
Kurt Vonnegut's classic, "Slaughterhouse-Five," will be used as a classroom set to supplement the APUS History and US History curriculum. The book is set across time, covering WWII (the Battle of the Buldge, the bombing of Dresden), the Vietnam War and the Civil Rights Movement. Slaughterhouse also touches on themes of Christian philosophy and PTSD, as well as the horrific nature of war itself.
The titles are an assortment of classics that will help continue to improve our classroom library.
Its wonderful to see students becoming interested in reading for the sake of reading not just because a book was assigned. Many thanks for your generous donations to our class!
