Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students live in a neighborhood that's predominately Hispanic, and 89% of the students who attend the school are from low-income families. While parents try their best to be involved in their student's learning, it can be hard and most of the time, students do not get the help they need at home. This is where I step in and try my best to provide everything I can in my classroom for my students.
My students come from a variety of backgrounds, but the one thing in common they each have is their love for learning!
It has been fascinating to see how much students get comfortable with their Spanish and to hear non-native speaking students engaged in a Spanish conversation. It is truly beautiful to hear!
My Project
Our classroom library is a safe space where students can dive into books during. Over the years, I have accumulated several English and Spanish books that resulted in a limited amout of storage space. This sometimes becomes overwhelming as many of our books bins are breaking and books are overflowing.
More space will be created with the help of the organization storage!
The materials from this project will allow me to organize the books by theme, but also by their langauge. The colorful bins will be easy for students to grab a book they want to read in a specific langauge. The multi-color book bins will also help replace our broken book bins and revamp some our classroom library materials, which create more space for more books!
