This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
"I believe that children are our future. Teach them well and let them lead the way," Whitney Houston said, and what will our future be like if they do not have the passion to read.
Students of this generation simply do not have the love and passion to read like they once had.
When it comes time for Daily 5, in my third grade classroom, I can ofter hear moans of disapproval from my students.
The students in my classroom come from low income areas. Some of the students live in a home led by single parents. Due to having a single family home, many of the students arrive to school without the energy or desire to learn.
My Project
By gaining new books for our classroom library students will be able to let their imaginations fly as they take on a new adventure every time they open a new book. The stories will allow the students escape the weight of reality.
Students will build their stamina toward reading by having a new set to choose from. Books such as The Diary of A Wimpy Kid is a story that most students have seen on film so they will be likely to relate to the book.
Today in my classroom library my books are not reaching the children and their needs.
Many of the books are below grade level. Therefore by donating you will help my students progress their reading skills and fluency. I believe that reading is one of the best forms of learning. By broadening my classroom library my students will gain enough knowledge to keep them striving in this world!
