My students need these books for their independent reading time. This time is so important. For most of them, they are reading below grade level and needs books that get them interested in reading.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My kids try so hard with the little we have at our school. They are funny, warm, kind, and sometimes a total pain in my butt. I wouldn't change it. Many of my students come from broken homes and have little money for supplies. I spend most of my paycheck on helping them. In my four years of teaching, I've realized that the way to make my kids continue to be resilient and shine brightly is to create a classroom environment in which they feel that they lack nothing and are always welcome. I have watched them succeed and transform into brilliant young adults with endless potential. I am so proud to be their teacher.
My Project
At our school, we are required to have students read silently for 30 minutes. These are books of their own choosing. Getting books that interest my students is hard because they are all on different reading levels ranging from Grade 1-Grade 9. I have selected three series of books that will interest all readers. I am hoping that with these books added to my collection, I will be better prepared to meet all my students' needs. Diary of a Wimpy Kid and the Amulet series will reach my lower level learners while Alex Rider will meet those higher level readers.
