My Students

In our classroom, reading and writing is not simply our objective; it’s who we are. We ARE readers and writers.
My students come from various socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds. The students that pass through our classroom door each day possess a deep passion for reading and writing, whether it’s intrinsic or inherited from our classroom culture.
We are a family in our classroom that share thoughts and feelings about their lives outside of the classroom doors. Therefore, sharing our reading conquests and writing pieces are natural, comfortable, and FUN! Students often say they enjoy writing now and haven’t felt that way before.
My students truly are readers and writers, and I want to do everything in my power to nurture that.
My Project
My students come from various racial, cultural, and economic backgrounds. However, our classroom library is lacking representation from all backgrounds.
I sincerely believe that these books will inspire equity and not only help students feel a sense of belonging in our classroom, but also in life.
We are becoming more and more aware of the lack of equity in America, and I think the public school classroom is a great place to start.
Students can walk away from 5th grade believing in themselves and one another. This may be the most impactful donation that one may make.
